Description of Practice

Marcia is an experienced divorce and family law attorney and mediator. She has undergraduate degrees in psychology and English and earned her law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1978. She has three grown children and has experienced divorce herself, so she has an understanding of the divorce process, both personally and professionally.

Additionally, Marcia is a trained family law mediator and an Early Neutral Evaluator, both FENE (financial issues) and SENE (custody and parenting time issues). She has a firm belief that resolving family law issues out of the courtroom is is the best for almost all couples going through a divorce. The court system can be significantly financially and emotionally draining.

Having a mediator who understands the intricate and ever changing details of divorce law, including recent court decisions. Marcia is also available to assist in drafting of your paperwork to submit to the court. Marcia is a former Carver County Attorney and one of the first two women to hold the position of County Attorney in the State of Minnesota.

Marcia uses her experience and expertise to assist couples going through a divorce to do so in a way that is less adversarial and less emotionally and financially draining.

Marcia has worked in family law for over 35 years. As an attorney, Marcia is aware of the issues and details needed in divorces, and she keeps up to date with laws and court decisions impacting divorces.

All issues are resolvable. Usually what is needed to break an impasse is more information. Sometimes people need help in finding other possible options for resolution of a disputed issue. Marcia offers evaluative mediation as well as more standard mediation (but even then, parameters are defined so clients know what decisions they need to make).


FREE initial half hour consultations are offered so help couples decide whether mediation is the best option for them. Mediation charges are $255 per hour, in quarter hour increments. If scheduled mediation time is not used, there is no charge for unused time.
