Description of Practice

This Mediator is Certified
I offer flexible, affordable services including online dispute resolution, mediation, facilitation, and negotiation consulting in real estate, landlord tenant, commercial leasing disputes; family business and nonprofits; workplace conflict driven by addiction and behavioral health issues.

Professional Background

As Mediation Counsel for the Conflict Intervention Service of the Bar Association of San Francisco, I manage a pilot project intended to reduce evictions in San Francisco’s supportive housing communities. For many years I worked in the commercial real estate industry in negotiation and executive roles. I managed landlord tenant conflict in the nation’s most culturally diverse environments, including San Francisco, Manhattan, Los Angeles, and Honolulu. Since 2012, my private practice has focused on mediation, negotiation consulting, and ADR project management. I co-founded the Napa Mediation Center and established a mediation panel for the King County Bar Association, before joining the CIS initiative.

Experience

30+ years negotiation, conflict engagement, and strategic planning experience from Manhattan to Honolulu. I am an authentic expert in managing the landlord tenant relationship in any context.

Approach

Transformative, evaluative, and facilitative techniques inform my practice. I am an empathic listener who helps parties find their voices, while offering lateral thinking and strategic perspective when needed.

Opportunity lurks in calamity, and I work hard to surface creative solutions to nettlesome problems. Most of my cases involve relational conflict more than discrete disputes, and I often utilize online tools. I negotiate by installment and spend substantial time privately with parties, leading them to common high ground by telephone, video conference, and email. This approach is often less expensive than traditional mediation, and produces superior, more satisfying results for the parties.

Fees

Services are provided on a fixed fee basis, with sliding scale fees and hourly rates available on a case-by-case basis. Please see my website for details.
